FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a Therapeutic Neurodivergent Affirming Assessment?
When you are seen by a psychiatrist or counselor, they may use the DSM-V or Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders to diagnose your mental health issues. Somone is considered to meet criteria for a variety of disorders if they experience a specific percentage of the total symptoms listed in the manual.
However, we believe that often the criteria in these lists do not fully represent many neurodivergent people’s experiences. ADHD and Autism are complex and diagnosis requires a close look at a variety of areas of functioning and the impacts of social and emotional factors to help us create your unique assessment report. Additionally, we believe that the care we take to offer an affirming space and approach to assessment increases the likelihood that your unique needs and concerns can be addressed. Whether you choose to pursue a formal diagnosis or not, you will be provided with detailed and specific information about many areas of functioning that help paint a complete picture of who you are and how you move through the world.
How long does this take?
The initial intake consultation is approximately 60 minutes. On the assessment day, we suggest to allow for a 3-4 hour appointment with breaks. This will depend on the type of assessments used and how many are used in total.
Is there a waiting list for scheduling?
We understand that if you are reading this today, you feel some excitement about getting started. We are usually able to schedule the initial intake consult within a week of your call and the testing dates within two weeks. Follow up sessions and final reports are generally available within the next two weeks.
Will my insurance cover this?
We do not bill insurance directly for our assessment services but we will create a detailed receipt or ‘superbill’ for you to submit to your insurance for any reimbursement you might be eligible for according to your plan. You may wish to contact your insurance provider and ask if they reimburse for the following codes/procedures:
Test Evaluation (first hour) – 96132
Each additional hour – 96133
Test administration and scoring (first 30 minutes) – 96136
Each additional 30 minutes – 96137
Please let us know if you intend to submit a claim to your insurance so we can provide you with the appropriate detailed receipt listing all the pertinent codes.
Of course, if you have HSA or FSA funds, we can accept those methods of payment as well.
